Letter from Joshua Whitney, Marietta, Pennsylvania, to George D. Wickham, Goshen, New York : autograph manuscript signed, 1814 May 10.

States that the salt, plaster and lumber markets are very poor; deplores the scarcity of money, created by the repeal of the embargo act and by the chartering of a great number of new banks by Pennsylvania; discusses his personal finances; says he, Crocker, Edwards and Eldridge will be unable to meet their bills at present. Appended is another letter dated May 12, 1814, in which Whitney notifies Wickham that the note of John G. Christopher and Christopher Eldridge, endorsed by him, will be paid by Christopher as soon as money is available to either of them. Postscript: Christopher will send the money by Whitney next week and will pay notes given by Thomas Whitney and John Johnson and Benjamin Morse.
